In 2021, I created and wrote Ragdoll for AMC and Alibi. It's a gruesome thriller based on the book by Daniel Cole. It stars Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Thalissa Teixeira and Lucy Hale, and was directed by Toby Macdonald.
In her very generous Sight and Sound review, Leila Latif said "Ragdoll effectively brings together the melodrama of police procedurals, the grotesque sensibilities of elevated horror and the complex antiheroes of prestige television. The highbrow and the trashy are stitched together into a rag doll of fun, eminently watchable TV."
From 2012-16, Jack Whitehall and I co-wrote three series of Bad Education for BBC3 and the Bad Education Movie, too. In 2023, we relaunched Bad Ed with Layton Williams and Charlie Wernham taking the leading roles. I directed two seasons and two specials of the show.
Jack and I also created and wrote two series of Bounty Hunters for Sky. Plus I wrote another sitcom, Cockroaches, which no one's ever heard of.
I served as a writer and co-EP on the Marvel show Ms. Marvel for Disney+. I wrote an episode of the Emmy-nominated Killing Eve season 2 for BBC America and an episode of Sex Education season 1 for Netflix.
I've also written episodes of All Creatures Great and Small (C5/PBS) and the Paul Abbott show, Wolfe (Sky One).
I co-wrote my second feature film, Old Boys, for Film4. In the Observer, Wendy Ide called Old Boys "a love letter to the love letter. And I fell for it completely."
Old Boys was directed by Toby Macdonald and stars Alex Lawther and Pauline Etienne. It premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2018 and won the Audience Award at the Dinard Film Festival.
I created a podcast, Capital, with Liam Williams, Charlotte Ritchie, Adam Drake, Ben Rowse and Matilda Wnek. It's a comedy about a disastrous referendum on capital punishment, and it was one of the Sunday Times' Top 50 Podcasts of 2017.
In 2019, I directed a short based on the podcast, starring Liam, Charlotte, Adam and Matilda, plus Harry Enfield and Jon Snow. It won the Audience Award at Dinard Festival 2019 and Best Comedy at the Discover Film Awards in London.
Capital was screened at the London Short Film Festival, plus Aesthetica, Encounters, Palm Springs, Brooklyn and Oxford film festivals, among others. It's also been shown on My5, Samsung TV and, oddly enough, inflight on Cathay Pacific aeroplanes.
I wrote and directed a short film, Isla Traena, which has been at some festivals, including Palm Springs, New Orleans, Mill Valley, and the London Short Film Festival.
I also wrote and directed a feature-length film, Damascene, which was in competition at the New Orleans Film Festival.
I write plays sometimes. I've written and directed five at the Edinburgh fringe, and maybe nine or ten in London venues like the Arcola, the Kings Head Theatre Islington, Theatre Delicatessen etc.
I've also written a book, A Good Bullet, which no one's ever heard of. Fair enough.
My first writing job was writing Big Brother's Big Mouth. It was thanks to 'BBBM' (or, rather, 'CBBBM') that I once shared a small plate of cold battered prawns with Coolio and Verne 'Mini Me' Troyer. That night, I went home and wept, because I knew there were no more worlds to conquer.
